5 Tips for a Brighton Fishing Adventure

Brighton sits at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon in Salt Lake County. If you are looking for a summer adventure here, you won’t be disappointed. There are a lot of incredible activities ranging from short relaxing hikes to exciting rock climbs, and everything in between. One of the most popular activities in this canyon is the fishing at Silver Lake in Brighton, Utah. That’s what we’ll focus on today! For that, we’ve put together a list of 5 fishing tips that we know will make your next family fishing trip unforgettable!

Brighton Fishing

1.  Location Is Key

There are a lot of lakes and streams in the canyon and it’s important to choose the right one. Our favorite spot is at the top of the canyon near the Brighton Ski Resort and the Utah ski vacation homes called Silver Lake. This picturesque lake is one of the most popular spots in the canyon for anglers of all skills because it’s stocked with Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, and Arctic Grayling annually. It’s a part of the Silver Lake trailhead and the lake is even wheelchair accessible making this the perfect spot for your Brighton beach fishing trip!

2.  Choosing the right lures

As any fisherman knows, picking the right lure is crucial in getting the best catch. It’s always a good idea to switch it up if you aren’t having success, but usually it’s best to use lures that match the color of the water you are fishing in. Using lures that are similar in shape and size to bait fish that the other fish feed on will also improve your chances of success. When going fishing on Silver Lake in Brighton, Utah, people usually suggest using spinners to get more bites from the trout.

3.  Picking the right gear

Finding the right gear for the fish you want to catch is very important. For trout here we recommend a 2500 spinning reel and generally a light 2 to 6 pound fishing line. That will usually be sufficient for the size of fish in this lake. You can find the right fishing gear on sports stores by the Brighton Loop road right near our rental suites.

4.  Finding the right time to go

The best fishing here is generally around dawn and dusk, if you plan to fish during the day look for areas in the shade or plan for days with more cloud cover. Like most people, fish generally look for cooler areas during the hotter hours and are often more active during the cooler hours of the day. To be ready for your big catch you can stay at our suites and be rested and ready to head out for some Silver Lake fishing.

5.  Research Beforehand

Like many other things in life, it’s always a good idea to do your research and make a plan beforehand. It’s important to know the laws where you plan to fish and have the required permits and licenses. Always bring plenty of water to stay hydrated. You also need to be prepared for the cooler weather that often comes in the evenings in higher elevations. Don’t forget to pack out all of your trash so everyone else can enjoy the beauty of the area, and most importantly, have a good time!

We hope these tips help to make your next fishing trip memorable for the whole family. If you’re looking for the best place to stay while you’re here, contact us to book at Brighton Chalets Utah.
